Hello! I’m Eleanor the Eagle, and before I tell you about all the places I’ve flown, I want to introduce you to the person who taught me how to explore…Peg!

Peg Luebbert grew up in a big, lively family where dinner conversations were filled with stories about history, government, and the world beyond the table. Long before she ever met me, she was already learning that ideas matter and that asking questions is a very good thing.

Years later, while traveling for her job, she began stopping at state capitols across the country. At first, she simply stood proudly on the steps, snapping pictures and sending them to her father. But soon, curiosity pulled her inside. She joined tours with grade-school children and discovered something wonderful: kids notice everything.

They spotted odd carvings, hidden animals, strange symbols, and curious details that adults often hurry past. Peg loved watching their faces light up—and so she began to collect those little surprises. So in a 30 year time span,  she visited all 50 state capitols! She gathered stories, sketches, and notes, always thinking, Someday, I’ll have time to tie these stories together!

Her four sisters and children believed in that “someday”. They listened, encouraged her, and became her very first focus groups—helping her to keep flying forward.

Then something special happened. A friend introduced Peg to Mosely, who helped bring me to life. From my pink bow (which honors Peg’s strength as a breast cancer survivor) to the smile on my face, Mosely helped shape who I am.

As we traveled together, I became more than a character—I became Peg’s companion. And together, we discovered that every capitol has a story, every detail matters, and every adventure is better when shared.

Thank you for flying with us. I’m so glad you’re here.

-Eleanor

Like Eleanor, Peg has been to all of the state capitals. Her favorite? Nebraska, her home state!

This is one of my very favorite stories.

Before I could fly across the country, I had to look like an eagle. And that’s where Mosely comes in.

After my traveling partner, Peg, was diagnosed with breast cancer, she found comfort and strength in creating stories. As part of her therapy, she began gathering her notes, memories, and ideas—imagining an eagle named Eleanor who could travel, explore, and discover hidden wonders in the state capitol buildings she had visited.

this is the original sketch of me!

One day, while sharing this idea with a fellow survivor, Peg heard about a talented ten-year-old girl named Mosely—a young artist who loved painting animals and bringing them to life. Art ran deep in Mosely’s family. Her  great grandfather was a proclaimed national mural artist, and his love for creativity clearly found its way into Mosely’s hands and heart.

When Peg and Mosely met, they bonded immediately. Mosely listened carefully to my story. Then she did something amazing—she saw me- Eleanor the traveling Eagle!

With her drawings, I suddenly had a pink bow, a bright smile, and a personality filled with warmth and curiosity. Mosely drew me the way a child sees the world—with imagination, joy, and wonder. Her talent shines brightly, She had already won multiple art competitions, sharing her creativity with others in ways far beyond her years.

If you look closely at the pictures in my adventures, you’ll spot many illustrations created by Mosely herself. She chose her favorite moments and drew them as she imagined them, showing how a young explorer experiences each place.

One of my favorite memories was visiting the Nebraska State Capitol together with Mosely and her family. They marveled at the symbols carved into the building and smiled when they spotted eagles watching over them—just like I do in the stories.

Mosely didn’t just help draw me.
She helped me become real.

And because of her, I get to fly—smiling, bow and all—into every adventure we share.
